I imagine “it’s just for kids” to be the kind of justification for its banality. The whole reason many people would be giving this game a look in the first place is because it features characters they know from TV, so nobody should expect heartstrings to be pulled here.

Simple can still mean good, and there are actually some witty one-liners to be found here, but this is a thin, ordinary tale of “guy you’re supposed to root for” versus “guy you’re supposed to root against.”īut okay, there’s only so much a developer can do when it’s working with a license like this. The plot is really a throwaway excuse to keep you moving from place to place, and it’s just about as basic superhero stories get. I just pretended he had daddy issues-it made things more interesting. After playing through Omniverse, I still really have no idea. Why does Malware want to destroy the Earth? Because he’s “The Bad Guy,” I guess.

Ben, as series fans well know, utilizes his magic Omnitrix watch to transform into various alien creatures for extra stuff-beating capabilities. The three of them beat stuff up, beat more stuff up, and then beat bigger stuff up to do that. Ben is joined by his partner Rook, a humorless, by-the-numbers alien cop who hops across different dimensions to work with both teen Ben and young Ben to find a way to stop the dastardly menace. Omniverse is the seventh Ben 10 title overall, and features the titular young superhero on a time-traveling journey to thwart the plans of the villainous Malware, a mech-monster-thing that wants to destroy the Earth. This industry is just that, an industry, and every once in a while it takes a game like Ben 10 Omniverse to remind us of that. Then lots of kids will run out and buy it, or their parents will recognize the big logo from their picture boxes and get it for them.
The publisher (D3) will publish it, the developer (Monkey Bar Games) will develop it, and the distributor (Cartoon Network Interactive) will distribute it. So there’s a demand for more unadulterated stuff with this little shapeshifting dude’s face on it to be produced. I suppose it’s charming to the right mind.
I can’t say I’ve watched much of it myself, but apparently young kids out there eat this stuff up. It’s the same as with most other licensed games-because the franchise it’s based on (in this case, a popular Cartoon Network show of the same name) is really popular. All opinions are always 100% our own and honest.I understand why Ben 10 Omniverse exists.

This is just my son, playing with quiet intensity, and enjoying himself for much longer than he is allowed to play, he claims it is because he needs to do a full review! He loves this game.ĭisclosure: We received this game for review. And of course my son is an expert in their abilities name an alien, he can tell you what they can do to punish the bad guys! And as always, this is not a tech review, I leave those to the tech blogs. This is especially fun in my house as over the last several years I have purchased almost all of the action figures.
You can be many different aliens from the Ben 10 series. That may make it more difficult for the younger crowd, but for my 9 1/2 year old son, when it comes to cartoon graphics on video games, he is starting to complain that “ E” is too young for him. I share this information as a way to say when a new video game comes out from a franchise that we are huge fans of, we are thrilled to review it! I enjoy the show, the adventure, the science fiction, the various alien characters that are constantly joining the cast, and met and interviewed the 3 main voice actors at Comic Con 2 years ago: a personal thrill! Also, my dad has been caught watching the show long after my son has left the room where it was on when we visited. My son has been a fan since the beginning. I have written about Cartoon Network’s Ben 10 franchise many times over the last several years. The game will offer players an exciting action-brawler experience as they switch forms and battle as one of 13 playable alien heroes – – all in an effort to defeat the evil plans of a fierce villain intent on destroying the world. Play as both Teen Ben and Young Ben and work with your new partner Rook to defeat the evil plans of Malware, in an epic storyline that spans two time periods! Dial up all your favorite alien heroes including new aliens like Bloxx and Gravattack, and fight in action-packed levels throughout the subterranean alien city of Undertown and other show-inspired locales. Fans will also be introduced to Ben’s new partner, Rook: a skilled but inexperienced Plumber graduate. Ben 10 Omniverse will introduce fans to an entirely different experience that pays homage to Ben’s past and includes a fresh batch of aliens to battle.
